The best material depends on load, floor protection, rolling resistance, noise, temperature and exposure to oils or chemicals. Harder wheels often roll more easily on smooth floors, while softer treads can reduce noise and protect surfaces. Test the material under representative operating conditions before standardizing it.

Larger wheels generally cross joints and debris more easily and can reduce required push force, but they increase overall height and need more swivel clearance. Select diameter only after checking load rating, floor obstacles, equipment height, available space and the chosen wheel material.

Record the thread diameter, thread pitch, usable threaded length and overall caster height. Confirm whether the thread is metric or inch and measure the receiving insert. Similar diameters can use incompatible pitches, so use verified dimensions instead of visual comparison.

An expanding fitting is inserted into a hollow round or square leg and tightened so it grips the internal wall. Measure the actual tube inside dimensions and inspect wall condition. The expansion range, caster load and equipment structure must all be compatible.
